The Alabama District News

January 2016

Greetings fellow riders, Linda and I hope you had a very special holiday season. With the end of one year brings on hopes and desires for the New Year. We hope that 2016 will bring you and your family much happiness, peace and prosperity. As we look forward to a new year we hope you have many plans already made for the riding season. Wing Ding this year will be in Billings Montana. We are certainly looking forward to the trip and we hope many of you are as well.

The first ride of the New Year for many will be a trip with your chapter and perhaps several others on a New Years Day ride. Several chapters have events scheduled and we hope that if your chapter does not have one planned you will make plans to join one of the other rides. All of them sound like fun. You can check the District website for info on all the scheduled rides. Hope to see everyone there. The second event of the year will be our annual Officers Conference on Jan 16th at the Gardendale Civic Center. We would request that all chapter officers attend but any other member that is interested may also attend. There will be several reminders sent out to the CD’s before then. Please remember that End of Year Financial statements are due that day. If you need any help in that area please contact Sara Leach.

We hope everyone had a great 2015. We certainly had a great time this year and are eagerly looking forward to 2016. Please remember the families of members who were lost during 2015 and keep them in your prayers. Also, please remember all of our men and women in uniform, first responders, and all of their families. They serve and protect us each day. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in 2016.

Gail and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Santa brought you all the things you wanted/needed.

At our Region A Officers meeting in December, we agreed that our motto for 2016 is “Encouragement.”  If you look encouragement up in a dictionary, you will find many definitions.  Here are two of them:  “Act of giving support, confidence, hope; the act of trying to stimulate the development of an activity, state, or belief.”  Both of these are good, and we can apply them to our chapters going into the New Year. Chapter Directors; please encourage chapter members to participate with the chapter and the activities as much as possible. Chapter members; please encourage your chapter director and your chapter team by remembering to thank them for what they do. Encouragement works both ways.

If any of the chapters need a Medic First Aid class, please have your Educator contact us so we can assist you in setting one up for your chapter. We know that, due to the Safety Weekend being cancelled, several members need this to update their levels. A minimum of 12 members are needed to make up a class.  If you need to combine with another chapter to accomplish this, please do so. The time to get this done is during the winter months when rides are few.  Give us a call and let us know where and when you would like to set up the class.

Thanks again for all you do.

This year has flown by but not without some great fanfare!  Take a few minutes to think back on what you have done this year and reminisce on your experiences and you will see what I mean.  Gosh we had a lot to do and gosh we had a lot of fun!  Think of the offers from GWRRA for good times, new experiences, travel to new places, training and just plain old friendship, fun and fellowship!  Where else could you get these offerings that so greatly improve your life, strengthen your relationships with family and friends and just overall improve your quality of life?  I think there is NO OTHER PLACE TO GO BUT GWRRA!  We truly are special in all aspects of our association.  GWRRA has offered and provided life changing experiences that will follow us the rest of our lives and even that is special.  The GWRRA leadership does a tremendous job of continually working to improve our lives and our experiences with GWRRA and we all should really be thankful for that!  That’s not to say we love everything about GWRRA, but if you honestly weigh the positives and negatives, you will find way more good than bad!  Think about it and tell someone how much you appreciate all they do!  It will make them feel good and I promise you it also will do a lot for you personally too!

The coming year is shaping up to be amazing also.  We have heard of some of the plans for 2016 and as usual, things will happen in a grand way again.  Think about it even just knowing that Wing Ding will be in Billings Montana again this year.  That’s a pretty big deal and I know it will be another memorable experience for all.  What else could possibly happen that would take you that far away from your home for FUN?!?!

We have several New Years Day Rides planned in different parts of the state and what better way could we start the year off than with a great ride with your friends for fun, safety and knowledge?  Of course these will be history by the time we get this newsletter out or meet again but I know all will really have some great memories and experiences to share about these rides when we do see you again.  Right after this on January 16, we will have the Officers Conference in Gardendale AL again this year.  We look forward to this event also and also can hardly wait to hear of more of the plans for 2016.  Feel free to come and join us and I know you will enjoy it too.
Remember that GWRRA is a wonderful association and we want all “good folks” to be part of our great family.  Share your calendars and your experiences and feel free to call me or Kathy anytime if we can assist in some way with you.  Use those beautiful Gold Wing motorcycles and others to enrich your life and strengthen your GW family ties and relationships and make more memories of a lifetime!  You deserve it!  We look forward to many more miles of riding pleasure with all of you and please, stay safe out there.  That’s the only way we can continue to make it fun.

Well the New Year is here and I am still stuck in the old one. Just cannot get used to doing my article in the middle of the month.

I hope everyone has or had a very MERRY CHRISTMAS, hope Santa came to see everyone.

Ok now for busyness we have had a good year as for as recruiting new members. We finished the year with a good gain thanks to Wing Ding being in our home state. Next year we will have a big loss if we do not get all those new members active in a chapter and make them want to remain members. One of them may be your next CD or ACD I don't know of any Chapter that does not need new members just for that reason. We have a lot of folks holding multiple positions to keep a chapter going that should not have to.

It is that time of year when some may step down from a position. Just a reminder the chapter MEC does not change with a new CD unless they want to step down or the incoming CD wants his or her own Chapter MEC. CD’s remember you are responsible for your chapter if you do not have a MEC you are responsible for doing the MEC’s job.

CD’s if you're stepping down pass this on to your incoming CD. If there are new incoming MEC’s please send me their information so I can have it ready for signing at the officers conference in JAN. If you plan on doing it please use the newest forms, they are on the GW web site. Please print or use the on line forms to fill out and print. The new MOU’s need to be signed by both husband and wife or vice versa depending on which will be the chapter MEC. Also both should appear on the application to receive the patches and pins. Bring Applications and MOU’s to the meeting. All MEC’s old and new should be at the officer’s conference as there will be some changes for the next year.

I won't bore you anymore today.
