It has been 4 weeks since my back surgery and I am back on the bike riding again. Having to take it a little easier than normal, but at least I am riding with friends and have a good time.
Well, the riding season is in high gear. This past Memorial weekend a few of us went to the Robbinsville, NC area to spend the weekend riding the motorcycle roads up there and we ran into large number of folks up there. We stayed in Andrews, NC at a Quality Inn and there was a big group of folks for Chapters T and J staying at the same place with the same plan we had. We also ran into another 20 GWRRA folks from Alabama that up in that area with the same type of weekend planned. Also saw a lot of other people up there riding Deal's Gap and other roads. Everyone seemed to be having a great time.
With the riding season in full swing and a lot of group riding happening like it was this weekend by going to the mountains for fun on two or three wheels. I hope everyone remembers to "ride your own ride" and please ride within you limits. Every year I hear of folks going on group rides and someone in the group tries to keep up and runs wide in the turn, then winds up not being able to make a turn or has some other issue that causes then to go down. I know that group riding is a safer way to travel and let's have more fun at the same time, but if you have a "newbe" who just joined or someone who hasn't ridden in a while, please take the time to help them find and understand (or maybe just remember) their ride limits.
I know this article sounds a little preachy, but I am asking that we all the extra few minutes to not only introduce the new folks to all the fun we have but help them and each other to have a great and safe riding season.
Sue and I hope to see a lot of you folks on the roads this year
Enjoy the ride as much as getting to the destination.

I would like to express my personal appreciation to all of those who joined in the effort to put on our annual Alabama District Motorist Awareness Day. Your efforts were really appreciated, and I truly hope that the efforts will result in lives saved. I don't have the total tally yet, but it appears from the initial counts that the number of contacts will be down from last year's results. That is the result of the weather and consequent reduced numbers of travelers. I really appreciate all of the hours devoted to this worthy cause. I also hope that the members enjoyed the contact with not only the motoring public, but also the fellowship of the other members who were helping man the Welcome Centers.
The next event I would like to encourage you to participate in is the annual "Big Burger Run" to Randy's Restaurant, 4276 Highway 136, Trenton, Georgia from 11am until 2pm on 27 July 2013. This year we expect not only participants from Tennessee and Alabama, but also the word is we will be joined by some of the native Georgians. I would encourage you to mark the date on your and your chapter's calendar.
Ride safe, and live long.

Well it is that time of year when all the bikes are getting out and about. Rally's, Fun Days and bike nights are off to a good start. We should all have GWRRA applications and literature in our bikes and ready to pass out when the opportunity arises. Bike nights are a good place to recruit new members.
As at looks now we are a little ahead on recruitment as we were this time last year. We need to keep this forward push going and work on retention also. You all have done a good job.
As you all know there are new rules on Chapter of the Year and News Letters. All these rules and manuals are all on line to download. If you need help let me know. I can email them or send you the link if you have trouble finding them. I would like to see more chapters competing for both. You will have fun doing it and may even learn something in the process.
Congratulations again to Chapter B in Huntsville for International Chapter Of The Year. It would be great to have the 2013 COTY from Alabama or even Region A. (Dreaming again) LOL
June is going to be a busy month for us Chapter T, Chapter L, and Chapter J are having fun days and the GA. District Convention is in June also. I will be attending all so get with me at one of them if only just to say hi.
Until then ride safe and happy recruiting.

What a great time we had in Mobile at the Alabama District Convention. I still can't believe we won the District COY selection! I didn't think we would win but I knew we would have fun. Everyone made us feel very comfortable. Thanks so much to our GWRRA family for the support to help make this happen. Special thanks to our close friends in Chapter T; it really helped us a lot to see you in the audience.
We had a wonderful time at the Region-A COY Rendezvous at Spring Creek Park Resort on Lake Seminole, GA. It was rainy and cool most of the day, but that didn't stop the fun. We all enjoyed chatting with each other, playing games, fishing and eating some good food. The day was time well spent getting to know the other COY's from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina in a very relaxing environment. Thanks to Lyn & Lynn Edwards for fun times during the ice cream social. Their games were a "shoe-in"!
We attended Chapter B's meeting on May 14th, to help them celebrate winning International Chapter of the Year. Congratulations Chapter B! You certainly deserve it; it was a lot of hard work to get this award. We also ran into Steven Hollingsworth there. So happy to see Steven is doing better, he gave us all a good scare.
We are planning on attending all of the Chapter Fundays that are scheduled for June. (And especially, working on our own chapter's Funday on June 1st!) Chapter L is having their Funday on June 8th, and Chapter J's will be on June 22. We are also planning to attend Georgia's convention in Dillard, GA. We hope to see all of our district friends and family at all of these events.
