-- District Director
I would like to begin this month's article with a "Thank You" to Alabama Chapter A for a job well done. Max & Kathy Tanner, Chapter Directors, and Jim & Karen Lee put together a memory making trip. The invitation was open to all and several chapters from Mississippi, Florida and Alabama participated. If you don't know what Swamp Gravy is then you need to make a trip to Colquitt, Georgia to find out. It is a trip worth making and participation with other chapters is what this organization is all about. The more we participate, the more FUN we have so, get out and have FUN and make memories.
The Florida Convention is the weekend of March 22-24. Several members of Alabama will be trekking down to Kissimmee to hang out and have a good time. Bill & Gina Berry, along with their team, always put together a good Convention. We hope to see as many of you as possible who can make it to the convention.
The Alabama District Convention is next on the calendar, April 11-13 in Mobile at the Ashbury hotel. There will be seminars, games, plenty to see and do in Mobile. We have some new vendors that will be with us so, if you need some new safety chrome or just want to update your ride, wait before you buy. Come and see what you can find. We need to support our vendors as much as we can.
Our Couple of the Year Selection will be back at the Convention. This will take place on Friday morning and several couples will be in the selection process. If your chapter has a couple in the selection, be there to support them and let them know how special they are to you.
The chapter assignments for the convention have been sent to each of the chapter directors. We cannot put this event on without your help. We want to thank you for all that you do. Please make sure your area is covered. Also, we might have a couple of things that we may need some extra help with.
Whatever you need, please let us know because we are here to support you and your chapter. We thank you again for all you do.

Greetings fellow riders, the month of March is almost over and April is upon us. April usually brings our first real month of the riding season and with it new adventures. Please make sure you and your bike/trike are ready for the road. Do your T-CLOCK on your bike/trike, trailer, and do your own self evaluation and make sure you are ready to ride. We want everyone safe out there.
April 11, 12, 13 is the weekend for our own Alabama District Convention. We hope everyone has registered and made reservations for the Ashbury Hotel so you can spend, what promises to be, a great weekend with us. We have lots planned for you this year including a couple of new events that we hope you will enjoy. What are they you ask, well make plans to be there and you will find out. Our talent show is scheduled for that Friday night and we need participants. Please get together with some friends and plan on an act to show off your hidden "talents". The categories this year are serious 1-4, serious 5 or more, comedy 1-4 and comedy 5 or more. We already have some "interesting" talent committed to be there but we need more. Make your plans to have some fun with us on Friday night. We also have a "special" guest that will be there to close the rock and roll talent show, so make your plans to participate and have some fun with us.
Also scheduled in April is the South Carolina District Convention, April 25, 26, 27, in North Charleston, South Carolina. This is always a great event and we hope you have made plans to attend. For those who are not attending the South Carolina Convention, Chapter G in Samson is having their funday on Saturday April 27th. Chapter G always has a great funday and if you are not going to the SC convention we hope you will make plans to attend this fun event. Details on both are available on the Alabama District website.
As most of you know, Wing Ding is once again in Region A this year in Greenville, South Carolina July 3rd thru July 6th. Alabama has ticket sales on Wednesday July 3rd. If you are there and could spare a couple of hours, any and all help would be appreciated. Last time Wing Ding was in Greenville we had a great time and fully expect to again this year. We hope you are making plans to be there.
As many of you already know, the Director of GWRRA, Jere Goodman, made an announcement this past month concerning OCP. OCP is no longer mandatory for officers, and the OCP class itself has been streamlined down to one day. Both of these changes are in response to your, the members, wishes. The OCP, while no longer mandatory, is highly recommended. You can take it on line or in a classroom setting. The classroom setting is by far the best way, just ask anyone who has taken it online. You have lots of other people to interact with and you have instructors there to help answer any questions you may have. Streamlining down to one day also helps by reducing the cost of the members by eliminating the overnight stay. If you have not taken the classroom course just ask anyone who has and you will discover that a lot of fun was had by all. Please make plans to attend the next course available to you and we promise, you will have some fun and maybe learn a few things about GWRRA.
To all chapter officers, thanks again for all you do for your chapter and for GWRRA, you are appreciated by all. Please remember all of our men and women in uniform and what they do each day for us. When you see them please tell them thank you for what you do. We are here for you, the members of the Alabama District. If we can help you or your chapter please let us know.
We hope to see all of you out on the road and at the Alabama District Convention,

Hello everyone and welcome to the riding season for 2013. This is my favorite time to ride each year because you can watch everything green up and being on a motorcycle you actually feel like you are part of the environment as you ride the back roads.
This is also my favorite time of year to tune up my riding skills to make sure I am ready for a riding season. Most of us don't ride as much during the winter months, so our skills get a little rusty. I encourage everyone to get out and just practice your skills by yourself in a parking lot, take a parking lot practice (PLP), or buy a riding course on your bike or trike (ARC or TRC). Any of these will help you get your skills ready to hit the back roads riding safely.
Tuning up your skills will not only improve your ability to ride with more confidence, but you will also enjoy the ride more because you have reduced your risk of riding by improving your skills and ability to react.

Well the first Convention of Region A is over and now we move from the mouse's house to Mobile AL. April 11 thru 13th for the Alabama Rock and Roll Party. This should be a trip down memory lane for most of us.
I want to thank everyone that has volunteered to work to put on this event, even all you out of state folks.
I still don't have a schedule of events yet so anyone that wants to take seminars or classes of any kind we can reschedule your work times so you don't miss anything. Just get with me at Mobile.
Gregg Dempsey will be doing a seminar including Chapter MEC information I would like for as many ME's and CD's to attend as possible. I will be sitting in on this if anyone has questions or needs help. Again I don't have day or time yet but everything will be posted there.
It seems as though membership is on the rise for the first Quarter I hope it continues. Potential members should be contacted ASAP. Keep recruiting, and work on getting some younger folks in our family. Remember they don't have to be on a Wing. That will come later.
Veronica and I are still trying to visit each chapter in the first quarter, we like 4 having visited each one this year. If we haven't been to your meeting yet watch for us for we like to sneak in on you. LOL. When several meet on the same day it makes it hard but we will get there.
Thanks again for all that you do.

-- District Couple of the Year
Trina and I have really enjoyed our time as your District Couple of the Year. We would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the year. It has really been a blast! We have made so many new friends and visited many new places. The most important part of being couple of the year, we believe, is to "just have fun."
It is now time for us to pass the honor on to another outstanding couple at the District Rally. We hope everyone will attend the Couple of the Year selection on Friday morning. Everyone should come just to hear some of the things that are said. It gets pretty funny at times. Come support the couples that are honoring their Chapter, and cheer for the one that will represent your District at the Region Rally in September.
