The Veterans Day Parade in Birmingham was once again a great success. The weather looked bad but when the parade started the rain quit and we never got wet. The people turned out to cheer and wave their flags as the participants of the parade went by. We need to keep this tradition going and remember our active and retired veterans.
January 12th will be the Snowball Rally in Prattville at the Doster Community Center. Time will be from 8am to @12pm. There will be games and refreshments for all along with a 50/25/25 drawing. If you plan to come down on Friday night the hotel information is on the District website. Sara will be at the hotel on Friday evening to look over financial reports if you can bring them. If you have any questions about financials or officer paperwork just give us a call. As always the Officer conference will be later that afternoon. Chapter Directors along with your staff are expected to attend.
Gail and I want to take this time to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year. Spend time with friends and family and reflect on the true reason for this season. While we are at it also remember the men and women that are serving in the armed forces in places far away from home. It is because of their sacrifice that we can celebrate the things we do. We are looking forward to 2013 and another great year for Alabama GWRRA.

-- Assistant District Director
Greetings fellow riders, Halloween is gone, Thanksgiving is almost upon us (at this writing), and Christmas is just around the corner. WOW, where has this year gone? My mom and dad always said that the older you get the faster time seems to pass! Boy, were they right! We feel like a roll of toilet paper, the closer to the end you get the faster is seems to go! We hope everyone is getting the opportunity to get out and enjoy all of this great riding weather. Fall is one of the best times of the year to really enjoy this wonderful pastime we all love, so take some time for yourself and get out and enjoy.
Our next District event will be Snowball on Jan 12 at the Doster Center in Prattville. All the info is on the District website and we certainly hope all can attend. We will have our annual officer's conference in the afternoon at the same location. Great chance to see all of all your old friends and make plans for the New Year. We hope to see everyone there.
We would like to thank everyone for all of your support this past year and we are looking forward to another great year in 2013. Always remember this is your organization, your region, your district, and your chapter. We would like to have your input about the things you would like to see happen in the coming year. We are always open to your suggestions and ideas. As a famous person once said, "the more you participate the more you get out of this great organization". We certainly agree with those words. Help your chapter and district officers plan things that you and your friends enjoy. Let them and we know what you want out of YOUR organization! But, to make it happen, you must participate!
We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Please don't forget our men and women in uniform that will not be with their families this holiday season, keep them in your prayers. We hope to see all of you soon,

A few words from the MEC
-- Membership Enhancement Coordinators
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving with family and friends and did not put on too many pounds.
The weather has turned a lot cooler for the most of us here in the northern part of the state. Some of you folks in the southern part still have some good riding days left so enjoy those days.
Don't let the cold stop you from participating as a chapter. If it too cold to ride, go in the 4 wheeler. Set up some lunch rides or supper nights at different places during the week and go in cars. As always ware your chapter shirts or vest, which always seems to draw attention and someone will start asking questions about who you are and what you do. Always take time to talk to new folks. They just may be your new member next month.
As most of you know our membership is on a steady decline. We have lost almost 6.5% of our members since the first of the year. We need to ask ourselves why. Is it the economy, or do they think the chapters aren't doing enough to encourage them to stay? And as you know some of us are just getting old with health problems. Some folks will join for a year and drop out because they were never contacted and invited to join a chapter. That is why we need to contact every new and potential member as soon as possible. Make it known in your first contact that there are no extra dues or cost of any kind to belong to a chapter. They are a member of every chapter all they have to do is come have fun. We have to make people want to remain as members. We have to keep the fun in with the family atmosphere. Make it fun!!!
Everyone ride safe, keep warm, and happy recruiting.
