-- District Director
The weather is changing, and we hope you guys are getting out and taking advantage of it. It has been really hot and we complain of the heat, but very soon the cold will be here and we will complain of that. I guess we just cannot be satisfied. When it gets down to it, just get out and ride whatever the weather.
The Region A rally is in the history books and what a rally it was. The weather was good and the attendance was up. There was so much going on it was hard to keep up with everything. The Region A Couple of the Year Competition took place and the winners were Dana & Jo Voight from Florida. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dana & Jo on their win. They have some big shoes to fill, and hopefully they can bring the International Couple of the Year back to Region A in 2013. A huge THANKS to Bill & Trina for doing such a great job representing the Alabama District. Trina had a really big burden to bear with Bill, but she did a good job. When you see them out, give them a big hug and thanks for a job well done.
The Mississippi District rally is next on the agenda; October 11-13. The rally will be back on the coast in Biloxi at the IP Casino. If you get the chance, come on down and have a good time with the Mississippi folks.
The Rider Ed weekend is October 27 in Lincoln, AL. The Honda plant will once again let us use their facility for our safety classes. All of the classes are listed on the District web site. In order for us to set up classes, we need to know a correct number; therefore, you need to pre register. You may register on the District web site. If you have problems with this, please give me or Richard Chapman a call. The best thing about this is the cost. Classes are FREE to any GWRRA member in Alabama. It is hard to beat a deal like that. The tickets that are sold for the trailer drawing help pay for this. Keep pushing those tickets, and come out in October to take advantage of your hard work.
If Gail & I can do anything for you, please let us know. We are visiting chapters as we can and hope to see you soon.

-- Assistant District Director
Greetings fellow riders; We have just returned from the Region A rally in Eufaula, Al. The region team put on another great rally and everyone we talked to had a great time. We hope you all had a chance to be there but if not you missed out on some fun. The Region COY selection was Friday morning with the couple from Florida, Dana and Jo Voight, being selected to represent Region A for the next year. We would like to congratulate and thank Bill and Trina Barden for representing the Alabama District so very well this year. Ya'll did a great job! Alabama was well represented in the Bike show with Philip Teasley taking home the first place plaque in his class and also collecting the youngest male rider award as well. An Alabama couple also won first place in the costume contest on Thursday evening. GWRRA's new Director, Jere and Linda Goodman, were in attendance and Jere put on quite a show for us at closing ceremonies. For details just ask someone who was there! Overall we had a great time in Eufaula and we hope you did also.
The next event on our calendar is the Mississippi rally in Biloxi on Oct 11, 12, and 13. Mississippi is the last rally of the year and the Mississippi District Team always put on a great event. This year they have moved back to the coast and promise another fun time for all. Please make plans to attend. Last chance for Safety Chrome for the year!! Following the Mississippi rally is the Alabama Safety Weekend Oct 27th and 28th at the Honda Manufacturing Plant in Lincoln, Al. Please see the District website for information and registration information. This is always a great weekend to hone your riding skills and pick up some useful knowledge about other Rider Ed subjects. A list of seminars and rider classes is also shown with the registration form. Please make plans to be there with us for a great weekend and remember, it is absolutely FREE for all Alabama GWRRA members!!! On a side note to this, please make a concerted effort to sell as many trailer tickets as possible. The money raised from the sale of these tickets finances this and other Rider Ed programs for the entire year so it can be free for all Alabama members. Also remember, your chapter gets 10% of each dollar ticket sold back for your treasury!! November will bring the annual Veterans Day Parade in Birmingham. GWRRA always participates in this event and strongly supports all of our veterans. Details will follow as soon as they are available.
Finally, we wanted to touch on our challenge to all Chapter Directors about visiting the three closest chapters these past three months. Have you made it? Did you make the goal? We have talked to several chapters who made it happen and each one was very happy that they had done so and got to see old friends again. According to them, the rides were great and getting to see old friends and, in most cases, the sharing of ice cream together made it all worthwhile. If you didn't make the goal, keep trying, it will be worth the effort!
As we say each month, our door is always open and our phone available to you. We are always glad to help you and your chapter in any way we can. Please let us know if we can do so.
Ride safe and ride often

-- Motorist Awareness Division District Coordinators
The fall riding season is upon us, and it is time to start thinking more about how we are going to dress to ensure we are seen by other motorist. Remember, in most accidents involving motorist and cyclist, the driver's answer is "I didn't see the motorcycle." Do your part to make sure you are seen by wearing colors that contrast with your surroundings. I prefer a "Safety Green" in the Fall, and a "Safety Orange" in the Spring; stay away from a dark color, especially at night. Of course, safety also gives us an alibi for adding "Safety Lights" to the bikes.
I would ask all Mad Coordinators to send in your Quarterly Reports. Chapter Directors, if you don't have a MAD person, that makes you MAD and you need to send your report to: ceb reed ing* att: net.
Ride safe, ride often, take a friend along.

-- District Couple of the Year
Trina and I would again like to thank the District of Alabama and Chapter Y for the HONOR of representing them in the region selection. I was just to heavy for Trina to carry me again. Dana & Jo Voight--FL are the new Region A Couple of the Year. Trina and I wish them the very best of luck. We encourage all the Chapter Directors to work with their Chapter Couples to just keep doing what they are doing and encourage them to give the selection process a try. The cost is just what you want to spend. You do not have to match exactly and the resume' is a lot easier. It is not as bad as some of the old couples make it sound. The thing to remember is, you can have fun and meet a lot of new friends. If you have any questions, you can contact Tammy & Steven - Lynn & Lyn -- Greg & Renee -- or me and Trina. Any of us would be glad to help you.
