Time flies when you have FUN and June is gone. Chapter N had their poker run and there was not a more perfect day. Gerald and Debra Russell along with their chapter members planned a great ride. This was a true poker run where you actually rode a route and picked a card at designated stops along the way. There were two GWRRA members from Georgia that came to participate because of that reason. After the ride we had hot dogs and all the fixins to go with it. Thanks Chapter N for a wonderful Saturday event.
Several folks from Alabama attended the Georgia District Convention held in Dillard Georgia. This was the first time that they have been at this location and it was a very good choice. About 500 members attended their convention and one couple from Alaska was there. Talk about a long drive. The weather was good and there are many good roads to ride. Talk is the Georgia Convention will be back there in 2013. Make plans now to be there.
July is here and so is Wing Ding. This will be our first time to Ft Wayne and we are looking forward to it. As most people know each Region and District has an area of responsibility. Region A is was given the task of ticket sales and the Poker Run at Wing Ding. Alabama has this job on July 4. We will have to be there all day and are asking for your help. If you are attending and can spare a few hours please come by and help great way to earn and take home one of the Volunteer Badges. In the past we have had plenty of help and it gives us the chance to visit and get to see old friends. Don’t forget our own Greg and Renee Dempsey will be competing for the International Couple of the Year on Tuesday afternoon, so if you are in the area, please come by and support them. You will have a chance of seeing history in the making as Alabama takes home that title of the first time ever.
August 11 is the District Picnic. It is going to be at Confederate Park off I-65 South between Clanton and Prattville. We have the pavilion all day but we officially start at 10 am and end at 2pm. There is plenty to see and do here and we are looking forward to seeing you there.

-- Assistant District Director
Greetings fellow riders, this past month has been a great riding month. The weather has cooperated (for the most part) and we hope you have had plenty of opportunities to ride and enjoy this time of year. We suspect that by the next article due date that we will be experiencing some of the southern summer days. We had the opportunity to attend Chapter N’s poker run recently and a good time was had by all that attended. The Chapter N members and the volunteers that came to help really did a great job with their fund raiser event. Chapter Directors Gerald and Deborah Russell announced at the end that they had raised nearly $1000 for their very needy charity. A great big thanks to everyone that attended that event and supported Chapter N.
The next District event will be the District Picnic on August 11 at the Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury (just north of Prattville). We hope each Chapter is planning to attend. This will be our only picnic this year and we hope everyone has that date circled on their calendar. The park is very nice and with many interesting things to see and do while there. There is no admission charge to come in to the park but they ask for a donation to walk through the museum (well worth the time to see everything on display).
Wing Ding is just around the corner and we wanted to ask everyone who is planning to attend to come by on Wednesday and help out. Alabama has ticket sales that day and any help would be greatly appreciated. You get to meet lots of new people and make new friends while there. Please get there early, if you can, to support Greg and Renee Dempsey as they attempt to become the next international couple of the year. They would appreciate all of your support.
Most of you are aware that GWRRA was founded as a motorcycle/social organization. Everyone that is a member of this great organization has one thing in common, their love of riding motorcycles. The other great thing is that you get to meet and make a whole world of new friends. We have observed over the past few years that we seem to be drifting away from one of the things that attracted us to GWRRA in the first place. Most chapters ride quite often, but most of those rides are just dinner rides or something along that line. When we first joined there were many rides scheduled to go to visit other chapters and that is usually a great experience. You get to see and hear how other chapters operate, what events they have scheduled, and the more importantly, see many of your old friends and maybe make some new ones. In our travels over the years, we have pirated many really good ideas and brought them back to our chapter, to make our chapter more fun. With all of this in mind, we would like to challenge all chapters to visit the three chapters closest to you during the next six months. Please don’t restrict yourselves to the three closest, but that is a good starting point. Make it a designated ride for your ride schedule this summer, you just might enjoy yourselves and will definitely get some good food (and ice cream) along the way. One recommendation is that you call ahead and make sure the chapter gathering is indeed going to be as shown on the website, things sometime change during the month. Chapter Directors, challenge yourselves and your members to do this project, you will have a great time and maybe pick up some new ideas!
In closing, we want to remind everyone that we are here to help you and your chapter in any way we can. Please let us know if we can do so. We look forward to seeing everyone out on the road and remember, please be safe during your rides, and watch out for the other guy!

-- Membership Enhancement Coordinators
Whose job is it? Is it the MEC’s or the CD’s? I think it is everyone’s job. Every member should think about enhancing other members and their chapters in one form or the other. Everything you do has a reflection on everyone else. Weaving in and out of traffic at 90 MPH is not the right way to go about it. Being Friendly and a hand wave will do more good than anything.
When you’re stopped somewhere and someone starts to ask questions take the time to talk to them a little never just brush them off. Good stuff spreads slowly, but bad impressions travel fast. Always keep applications in your bike; you never know when you may get the opportunity to use it. Try to talk to anyone on a bike of any kind, even the crazy kid on the crotch rocket. He won’t always be young and invincible. Later on he may remember talking to a GWRRA member and all the fun they have. Not to mention we need younger folks joining us.
Ok I have wasted enough of your time so just remember every member counts. Even the new ones we haven’t met yet.

-- District Couple of the Year
This has been a tough month for Trina & I. It started off great we left on the 24 th of May with Lynn & Lyn headed for the Georgia Rally. The first 10 days were a lot of fun in NM – AZ – UT. Then IT’S down hill from here. On Sunday night Lynn gets a call that his younger brother Larry had passed away from a heart attack. Early Monday morning we hit the road home 1900 miles give or take a few. We were trying to get home so Lynn could make the funeral and support his Mother. we rode a hard 600 mi. Then things go from bad to worse. That night Trina got a call that her Mother was in ICU and was not going to survive. Now were all pushing in support of each other. After pushing another 650 mi day. Lynn found out he could make his brothers funeral easy. They refused to take it easy the rest of the way home. They left with us on Wednesday morning for the hardest day yet. We were all dead tired when we left. Trina’s mother was still alive i made up my mind that we were going all the way today. After 675 mi. we pulled in to the Hospital. After seeing the look on Trina’s face when she touched her mom and spoke to her although she was in a coma. That made all the hard miles, sweat & pain worthwhile. Three days later she passed away with Trina by her side made it all worthwhile. We can never repay Lynn & Lyn for their support on the trip home. You just CAN’T beat friends that give 100% to support you in your time of need. If it WEREN’T for GW we would not have the close friends that we have. I know we will all be there for each other.
We regret not being able to attend places on our list. Like the Georgia Rally – Chapter AL-N poker run and Chapter AL-J mall show. We think we are going to have Trina’s MOTHERS AFAIRS settled enough to attend Wing-Ding.
Trina would like to THANK EVERONE for their condolences & support at this time.
