Hello everyone, 2012 is almost half over and it seems that we are just getting started. The 2013 Alabama Convention flyer is on the website for downloading. We will be returning to Mobile. One little change is that to register and get the special room rate that our members will receive you must be registered with a registration number. The Hotel will start taking those registrations on June 1st.
May was MAD month, the numbers are not in, but we were in Mobile with our friends from Chapter A and had 640 contacts which was a higher number than last year. Thanks to everyone that went out and spent the day connecting with our four wheeled friends.
June will bring us the opportunity to travel to Dillard, GA for that District convention. Great food and wonderful riding roads. July brings us the Granddaddy of them all, Wing Ding, Fort Wayne IN. If you are there on Tuesday come and help us support Alabama's own Greg and Renee Dempsey who will be representing Region A in the International Couple selection. Alabama has the responsibility for Ticket sales and Poker Run on Wednesday at Wing Ding this year. We really need everyone's help and support to pull our assignment off and make it a success.
We would like to thank all of you that get out and support your local chapters each and everyday by active participation. Being involved is the lifeblood of our organization. Sometimes everyday life gets in the way of all the fun that we want to have, work and commitments sometimes have to come first. But we want to encourage you to ride and enjoy the friendships that your chapters and association offer. Keep this FUN.

-- Assistant District Director
Greetings fellow riders, the month of May has been a busy one for us. We have traveled to several chapter gatherings and have enjoyed each of our visits. We are planning to attend several more the month of June and are looking forward to seeing everyone. With the close of the 2012 Alabama District Convention brings a time of reflection on the things done well and the things done, maybe not so well. Everyone we have talked to so far has given us positive feedback about the location, activities offered, and vendors present at this year's event. We would like to hear your feedback concerning this event. If you have an opinion on the convention, good or bad, we would like to hear from you either in person as we see everyone during our travels or via email. You opinion and observations may help us do a better job next year of presenting what you, the members of this great district, want to see and do while you are in Mobile. Mentioning Mobile, as most of you already know we will be back in Mobile at the Ashbury Hotel again in April, 2013. It isn't too early to register and make your room reservation. We have changed this process just a little bit for next year. You must register for the rally and receive a registration number before you call the hotel to make a reservation. They will not make a room reservation for you without that number. Please register early to get the type of room you would like to have for next year's convention. Also, we hope you enjoyed the talent show on Friday night, and would like to encourage you and your chapter to make plans to participate next year. The more "talent" we have the better the evening. There are four categories to participate in. They are Serious 1-4 people and Serious 5 or more. There are also Comedy 1-4 people and Comedy 5 or more. These "talent" shows are so much fun for both the participants and the audience so get your group, or yourself, ready for next year's show. These shows create some great memories for you and everyone in attendance.
At this writing we have just completed our annual MAD day on May 19. From everyone we have heard from, so far, the day was a great success. We participated at the Alabama Welcome Center on I20/59 near the Mississippi state line. Chapters T, J, and L were in attendance and did a great job of talking to motorist and passing out the MAD literature. We had lots of positive feedback from the folks we talked to and they shared many interesting stories about their contacts with motorcycles. A very special thanks to all of the chapters and members who participated in the 2012 MAD day. We hope you enjoyed your experience as much as we did.
Our next District event is our annual picnic scheduled for Sat August 11 at the Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury, Al. This is located north of Prattville and just off Highway 31. For more info see the District website or visit the Confederate Memorial Park website. This is a very nice location with many civil war related sights to see. We hope everyone will make plans to attend.
Wing Ding is coming up in July in Ft Wayne and we hope everyone is planning to attend. Region A and the Alabama District are responsible for ticket sales on Wed and Thursday. If you are there, and could spare a couple of hours, you help would be greatly appreciated. We have participated in this several times and have enjoyed it each time. You get to meet lots of new people from all over the world. Another chance to make some new friends!
As we stated above, we will be out attending chapter gatherings in June and hope to see you at your chapter gathering. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you or your chapter.
We hope to see everyone out on the road and please be safe during this busy travel season.

-- Motorist Awareness Division Coordinators
The month of May is an important one for GWRRA Alabama District, it is the time when we observe Motorist Awareness Day at the Welcome Centers around the state, and also part of how we maintain our not-for-profit status. I don't have the reports in yet for the rest of the groups who manned the centers, but I can tell you that the one on I-59 coming from Georgia into Alabama was well manned and very successful. Jan had to represent the District at this center because of a last minute assignment at work that saw me putting in a 15 hour day at work instead of joining the effort at the welcome center, but it was successful anyway. There were 28 members participating from the three chapers N, V and Y who manned this center, they contacted 550 motorists, talking with them about safely sharing the road and building respect for our efforts.
The manager of this Welcome Center appreciated our efforts and the display so much that we have been invited back on the 24th to help at the Alabama Tourism event the welcome center is hosting. Jan and I plan to participate in that, using additional materials I have on the way from GWRRA in Phoenix. I would encourage all of the chapters to participate in Motorist Awareness whenever the opportunity presents; it is a worthy cause, and it can also be a good recruiting event.
With Chapter V we are working to set up in a shopping center parking lot in Arab to conduct another MAD / recruiting event. It may even be a way to contact prospective members who don't know about GWRRA.

Every Member Counts
This should be our Motto. Just think about it for a second without members there would not be a GWRRA. Without GWRRA how many of us would have ever met or became friends? We all have friends and family from all over the world just by belonging to one of the best family organizations in the world. (My opinion only) Think about it, what is yours. Every member counts
Once again this month there is more outgoing than incoming. Let's all work on retaining the members we have. Check Expiring members and expired members. If it is someone that has been active in your chapter I suggest contacting them. It is not required only a suggestion. I know I have had members that never received a reminder notice from Phoenix, then go check the full ARL and find that they have moved or changed email address or both and never updated their records. Then again with economy the way it is some folks may just be in a tight. It won't hurt to check.
Chapter MEC's and CD's try to get your ARL reports back to me by the 5th of each month. Sooner if you can and that will give me time to make some contacts and send U.S. mail if needed.
If I can help in anyway please let me know.
Thanks for all you do.

-- District Couple of the Year
When we left you last month we were on our way to the South Carolina convention. Charlie & Sparky and there Team showed everyone a good time. The weather was great. Trina had a hard time carrying me in the talent show tied second but I am a heavy load.
On May 12 Lynn & Lyn had the first annual Region A Couple of the Year rendezvous at Spring Creek Resort in Donaldsonville GA. I think everyone had a good time. It was a very relaxed and enfomitive time. The boat ride seemed to be the hit of the weekend. Alligators and many different birds were to be seen along with lily pads in bloom. We made some new friends and had fun with some of our Georgia and Alabama friends. Tammy came in first and Trina second in the fishing contest. The ride home was a little wet.
We were lucky for mad day the weather was great. We went to I-85 at Lannet with Chapters M-F-Q. Thanks to all that helped. Next stop the Georgia Convention hope to see you there.
