As most of the Alabama District knows, the month of May is designated Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. In observance of this, May 19th is to be Drive Aware Alabama Day. With the help of all the Chapters we will be manning the welcome centers in Alabama, and handing out Motorist Awareness material and promoting GWRRA. At the Alabama District Rally, Terry Cleveland established chapter assignments. I think most all the Chapters were represented. I would like to thank everyone who was there.
The below is the schedule assignments that Terry Cleveland had drawn up for this year's Motorist Awareness Day, 19 May 2012 for the Alabama District. We ask that all contacts be counted and reported to me at the end of the activity. The Welcome Center on I-10 entering from Mississippi is closed and not expected to reopen before the event, so there are some chapters with no specific assignments. Be creative, visit a local park or other facility and put on a Bike Show, any contact with the motoring public is helpful. Please submit the quarterly Motorist Awareness numbers to us instead of to Terry from now on. Please also pass this request to your Motorist Awareness Coordinator or Chapter Educator if you don't have a "MAD" person.
|Chapters B & H||I-65 welcome Center entering from TN|
|Chapter N, V, & Y||I-59 Welcome Center entering from GA|
|Chapter D||I-20 Welcome Center entering from GA|
|Chapter F & M||I-85 Welcome Center entering from GA|
|Chapter G & U||US-231 Welcome Center entering from FL|
|Chapter A & W||I-10 Welcome Center entering from FL|
|Chapter J & T||I-20 Welcome Center entering from MS|
|Chapter L, S, & Q||Please pick a rest area or other active spot in your chapter area and contact folks traveling through.|
This is one of the things that enable us to retain our not-for-profit status. Please do as much as you can to help in this effort. If you wish to have some Motorist Awareness brochures to distribute, please contact national. The home office phone number is 623-581-2500, or toll free at 800-843-9460.
It is not necessary to get folks to take the brochure in order to count them, even something as simple as asking them to "Watch out for motorcycles" is a contact and can be counted. We have found that giving out cold water is a good way to get the people talking, but be creative, let your chapter members think up ideas. HAVE FUN with it!
Be safe and RIDE AWARE!

Well I guess everyone knows by now about the change in the Dist. Staff at the Alabama Convention in Mobile. Yes there were tears and happiness at the same time. I can only imagine the stress Roy and Anita have been under the last four years, and at the same time manage to have a lot of fun. I am sure they will do great on the Reg. Staff.
Dewey and Alice Cole stepped down as Dist. MEC after seven years. They did a great job and their shoes will be hard to fill. So let me introduce myself as the new MEC for the Dist.
We are Kenneth and Veronica Campbell most everyone knows me as YOYO. We have been in GWRRA since 1988 so we have seen a lot of ups and downs in the membership. We are presently Chapter CD's of Chapter D in Anniston. We also did the MEC job for the chapter for a time. So we know every member counts. A lot of you old timers know Chapter D has had some great Cd's and has had a lot of fun. We are still doing it so come visit us.
As the new MEC we are not going to make any changes to the way things go out to the Chapter MEC's we just want to do it right. We will work with all the Chapter MEC and CD's on retaining the members we have and try to recruit as many as we can.
We will start visiting chapters in May so we can meet one on one, we hope to visit two or three a month. As always if I can help in anyway please let me know. As with any new job there will be a few hiccups so bare with me. It will only get better.
As Roy would say: thank you for your time.

The month of April has been a blast. Since our last article we have been road warriors. First it was off to the Florida Convention where Bill- Gina and their Team put on a great time for all. Trina & I were lucky enough to win first place comedy at the talent show. We also received "IT " for Chapter "Y" from Chapter "B".
Then it was off to Chapter "G" for their Funday as usual they out did themselves. If you have never been to visit them in South Alabama go it's a great ride. They make some of the best BBQ you ever ATE and I know a Gold winger will ride a 1000 mi. for good food.
Then it was off to the Alabama Convention where Roy -- Anita and their Team preformed their grand finale as the District Team in style. Roy & Anita are moving on to the Region "A" Team where they will do the same great job for them as they have for Alabama. All who attended had Fun & Fellowship. We lucked out again taking 1st place comedy in the talent show I don't how much longer Trina can carry me.
Robert & Gail are the new DD, & Frank & Linda are the new ADD. I know Linda has ADD she married Frank. Trina & I are the new Vendor coordinator Trina is also District Chaplin. Steven has preformed such an outstanding job I hope to live up to the high bar he has set. Thanks Steven.
It's off South Carolina in the morning. Talk to you in June.
