Hello Fellow Wingers;
Well the temperature managed to rise a little but the rains came. Corky and I don't like starting in the rain because we know what our dirt road will look like then and, more importantly, later!! As a matter of fact we went on a Chapter ride to Chapter FL1-O on Saturday, 18 Feb in DeFuniak Springs, Fl. on our 4 wheeler. There were 9 of us, two on bikes! Only Howard Calhoun and Jane & Rodney Kelly rode. In support of us being sissies, our dirt road had just had about 6 inches of fresh Alabama red clay put on it and most of that on the up and down hill portions. WELL......
We opted for the safer ride, for once. Coming back in the rain is one thing but leaving in it is another.
It seems that the new year has been a little rough on the hearts of some of our members. We had Freddie Martin, Ch U (Dothan) go to the hospital because of a bad reaction to prescribed medicines and ended up having a mild Heart attack while in the hospital. Great place to do that huh? He received a Heart Cathorization and then open heart surgery for a TRIPPLE BY-PASS. He spent a total of two weeks in the hospital and now is in the Crowne Health Care (rehab I believe) of Eufaula, LLC, (334) 687-6627. Reports are that he is doing very well. Also, from the same Chapter, Spencer Hall the Chapter Director was admitted to the same hospital on the same floor as Freddie for four days with heart/chest pains. He is home now and, in his words, doing as well as could be expected! His medications should get to him soon and will help tons, we hope. We would like to thank Gina Faye for staying with Freddie almost 100% of the time he was there; it MADE a big difference to him and his son Joe. Also Howard Calhoun and Carol Flack for selflessly volunteering to take care of Spencer's wife, Joan, during his absence because she is restricted to a wheel chair due to a stroke late last year. Let's all keep them, and all others, in our thoughts and prayers.
I don't usually say anything about our GWRRA sponsors. But this is a one-time exception. In a small town called Cantonment Florida above Mobile near the Alabama boarder is a Custom Trike dealer by the name of Rick Hual, yes HUAL. He not only supports the Alabama, Florida and Mississippi Conventions, but many Chapter functions as well. He is sponsoring a Charity Ride in November of this year in support of the Hope Center for Teens. I mention it this early because I want to allow all of us the time to work the event into our calendars. He supports us magnificently and we now have the opportunity for a little back pay. If interested please check out his web site at www.HB2T.com/site/OpenHouse or call (1-850-944-2688) It would be a wonderful way for us to say, "thank you Rick".
K, I'll let ya all go back to sleep. Or have I already put you there?

Looks like the riding season will be with us earlier than normal this year and I hope everyone is ready to start riding. If you like me your skills are a little rusty because you haven't been riding regularly for a few months. The best way to get ready and "tune up" your skills is to get our and practice specific skills. The best way is to get out and practice with your friends and riding buddies. Have your Chapter Educator schedule a Parking Lot Practice for the entire chapter, but bikes and trikes. Alabama has several Certified PLP Facilitators that are more than willing to help set and work the PLPs. Chapter T is hosting a PLP in the Birmingham area on Saturday March 17th for both bikes and trikes, please contact Chase Estes if you are interested. Chapter H is hosting a PLP in Huntsville area on Saturday April 7th for both bikes and trikes, please contact Richard Chapman if you are interested.
If you want to learn to group, Chapter T is hosting a Road Captain's course on Saturday April 7th in the Bessemer area, please contact Chase Estes if you are interested.
If you need to a Medic First Aid (MFA) course, Chapter V is hosting one on Saturday March 17th in Guntersville area, please contact Carl Breeding if you are interesting.
If you need something put on in your area, please contact either Jim Robinson or myself and we will help get set up and going.

Greetings fellow riders, well the riding season is almost upon us. We have had some good days already but the really good days are soon to follow. We have just completed and very successful February for Leadership Training. On Feb 4th and 5th we conducted a Horizons class with a good turnout. Following that up two weeks later, the 18th and 19th, we conducted an Officer Certification Class with 22 in attendance. The last weekend, the 25th and 26th, we conducted a Chapter Leadership Skills class with 23 attendees. As you can see this has been a very successful month for Leadership Training in the Alabama District. To those of you who attended these classes, a very big THANK YOU for being here. You could have spent your time in many ways but you chose to spend it here with us. We are thankful for your dedication not only to yourselves and your chapter, but to the Alabama District and GWRRA as a whole. When you see these folks at your chapter gatherings please give them a big hug, or at least a big thank you for taking time to become more knowledgeable about themselves and GWRRA. Also, we would like to thank the instructors who took part in all of these classes, Roy and Anita Fosnight, Robert and Gail Brown, Greg and Renee Dempsey, and Richard and Sue Chapman. When you see them, please give them a big thank you for spending their time to work with and help all of us. I would also like to take a moment to thank my best friend and wonderful wife, Linda, for all she does both behind the scenes and in front of the classroom. Without her dedication and support, this would be a much less enjoyable and extremely more difficult job to do each year. Many of you have attended our classes over the last several years and, judging from the feedback, most of you have taken away something from them. What you don't usually see is the effort and dedication from her that it takes to make all of this work. She does all of this while working full time and still having to put up with me, and I can tell you from personal experience, that is no easy task. Anyway, thanks to everyone who has made Leadership Training in Alabama so successful and so enjoyable. Please remember that all of us on the District Team, who serve you and your Chapter, are always here to help you and your chapter in any way we can. Please don't hesitate to contact us if our help is ever needed.
We hope to see all of you out on the road

Lodging is limited here and filling up fast but the restaurant & gathering facilities are excellent. The rooms at the lodge were built in 1950 and have green linoleum floors. So if primitive camping to you is the Econolodge you may want to stay at one of the alternate places. The alternate locations are on the flier located on the first page at the Region A website.
Lets go have some fun (Couple of The Year Style)
Call or e-mail us if you have any questions.

The month of February seamed like every time we had a chance to ride it would rain. I was able to get my trike maintenance finished. Now we are ready to hit the road.
We managed to make a few Chapter gatherings visiting with Chapters N & V both are great Chapters. We always in enjoy the Fun and fellowship with them. The Chapter N Chili cook off was a blast literally found some spicier hot chili enjoyed every bite. Too many sweet deserts for diabetic so not to hurt their feelings I had some anyway
The highlight of the month was going with Chapter-Y to GA-B2 Douglasville GA. To capture the Region A Wandering Plaque. I am happy to say capture was a success. The plaque will be up for grabs at Chapter Y Fun day on March 3 from 10-1 at Gardendale Civic Center Gardendale Al.
The Convention season is just around the corner. We will be starting with Florida in March, Alabama & South Carolina in April, Georgia in June, and Wing Ding in July, and Region A in September and a few more stops between. I think I need a LARGE loan.
May the Sun always be at your back and God as your copilot
