What a great time to ride was last weekend? I'm telling you, if you didn't get out at least once, you messed up! Corky and I road over 800 miles going to and from the Florida Conference held in Kissimmee. Over 1400 Members, 40 Venders and what seemed to be a million bikes attended. They still give away a NEW GOLD WING for the Grand prize and this year $500.00 for each 25/25, and an additional $1000.00 prize to boot!!! Alabama was awarded first place for The Largest District outside of Florida in attendance with 32 members there. Alabama Chapter G (Mr. G) won first place in the Mascot completion, Greg & Renee Dempsey won First Runner up in the District Challenge. All days there started early and ended up late for most of us, but every minute was FUN. Don't hold me to these dates, but I believe the next one is scheduled for 22-24 Mar 2012 at the same place. I might add here that the game prizes were GREAT. I spent a lot of $$$$ and time trying to get some, but---- not in my cards. I think you'll truly enjoy going to one of their Rallys/Conventions.
Speaking of which, ours is only a couple weeks away, Mar 31-Apr 2 in Huntsville, Al at the Space Center Marriot Hotel. Your District Team has dedicated many hours of coordinating, gathering and publicizing this event to make it one of best. Please try to attend; you'll be glad ya did.
Because I only have one page to get all my news out on, I am dedicating the rest of my space to mine and Corky's new friends. Al & Peggy Rogers Rome Ga Chap L and Stan & Debbie Bailey Chapter L, Tallahassee, Fl.
"ANOTHER CHANCE TO MAKE MEMORIES"
It all began just North of Tallahassee, Fl. Corky and I had decided to take Hwy 19 to the Convention rather than I-10. I got upset as that route took us straight through the heart of Tallahassee. A zillion stop lights, hotter than the Devil and a lot of time lost. Corky simply said, "oh well maybe it was meant for us to come this way". Sure enough it was. If we hadn't, we would have missed this wonderful opportunity. Around 2:30 in the hot afternoon and about 25 miles East of Tallahassee, we came upon a couple fellow Wingers setting on the road side in the hot sun. I misread his hand signal, but Corky didn't so I had to make a u-turn -- again. Al and Peggy Rogers (not Bundy) from Rome, Georgia Chapter L on their way to the Florida Convention had lost their alternator. After introductions, a few cigarettes and a cool drink we started to figure out just what to do. Those of you out there, who know me, know my ideas are not the best, and once again I proved it! I suggested we call the Honda Dealer of Tallahassee. That turned out to be not so good, so I suggested he try his Road side Assistance Plan. He is a member of Rescue Plus sponsored by GWRRA, so he called them. An hour later we were no better off. Al gave them the Hwy # we were on, the nearest cross road, the name of the town two miles further down the road and our grid coordinates from his GPS and the fact that we were setting right under the Lamont water tower. The operator finally told him to call 911 so they could help locate us because, now get this, "Hwy 19 is so long its hard to find us"!! Well by then Corky said, "Let's try the Gold Book". Duh!!!! Now that's what I should have suggested in the first place. As it turned out there are only two names listed for Lamont, Fl. The first name wasn't home but the second was. Debbie Bailey answered, but wasn't sure herself just were we were, so she called here hubby Stan at work. He works in the Sherriff's Office and took off to help us. In the mean time Debbie came to find us bringing drinks, snacks and an awesome Personality. She told us that they had been in the Gold Book for many years and had never been called but wanted to. She was extremely happy and wasn't passing this chance up. "Another Chance to Make Memories" is what she called it, and it was. She and Stan are loved a lot in their Chapter I bet. Stan called in a truck with a trailer but the trailer was too small for the trike and trailer, so he called in another truck to pull the trailer! While all of this was being done, along came a Harley man. We all knew we were in for a good razzing when he pulled over. But guess what? Greg Skalany was a stupendous guy. Not only did he know exactly were we were 'cause he lived in Lamont two miles down the road, but he sat there with us in the hot sun two hours or more giving us all moral support. As it turned out, later he took his Harley home and brought his truck back as a stand-by just incase and he furnished the tie downs to secure the trike to the trailer. I'll not make jokes about Harley guys ever again. He should be in Public Relations, because he is a great guy. Well around 6:30 (4 hrs later) with the trike loaded, the trailer hooked up and the Rogers in good hands, Corky and I bid a hearty fair well and off we went, for we still had 5 hours or more left on our trip. The next day we met Al and Peggy and talked about the rest of the story! They couldn't get the bike repaired right away so they rented a car to finish the trip. But the surprising part was to hear that the two truck drivers took them all the way to Crystal River, Fl approximately 130 mile further down the road where AL & Peggy were to spend the night, and would not allow Al & Peggy to reimburse them their cost of the trip or for their time. Just a hand shake and a Thank You seemed to be enough. I hope those two guys forgive me because I failed to write their names down while there on the Hwy. Corky and I Thank Al & Peggy and Stan & Debbie for giving us probably the only chance we will ever have in being part of such an event. I wanted to ensure that everyone in our motorcycle society knows about these great people who represent our GWRRA motto, FRIENDS FOR FUN, SAFETY AND KNOWLEDGE.

Have you read about the CHAPTER RECRUITING CONTEST in the new 2011 Gold Book? Located on page 5.
It asks, do you have the best Chapter in GWRRA? Are you ready for some friendly competition?
Bob & Karla Greer, Region "A" Membership Enhancement Coordinators, say the best part of this contest is that the recruiters do not have to do anything except make sure their name and membership number is on the application. Whatever Chapter the recruiter is an active participant with based on the area report will get credit for that new member. Phoenix will determine how many new members were recruited for all Chapters by doing a special computer run on November 1, 2011.
Be the Chapter that recruits the most NEW Members by November 1, 2011 and you will receive:
Also, do not forget about the contest within Region "A". Whichever District has the highest percentage of Chapters that have Chapter MECs wins. One District MEC will be recognized as the winner. All Appointment/Change paperwork and MOUs must be on file with the Region MEC to count. This contest ends September 1, 2011. The winners will be announced at the Region "A" Convention.

Spring has sprung and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Alabama Convention.
We just returned from a great Florida Convention where Rick & Madellena Buck were selected as their new 2011 District Couple of The Year. This leaves South Carolina to select their couple to complete the Region A Districts. for the selection at the Region rally to represent us at Wing Ding in 2012. Ron & Becky Lees will represent Region A in July at Wing Ding in Knoxville Tn. Please support this wonderful couple with a huge Region A cheering section. As far as I know noise makers are not banned. However if you see someone turned away with a noise maker sneak yours in as best you can. Mississippi State Univ. fans are experts with their cowbells.
In the next 5 news letters we will continue our series "In Their Own Words". This is where each District couple writes a short biography which tells us a little bit about themselves and allows us to get to know the candidates.
Our Alabama District Couple Greg & Renee Dempsy have been very busy. We are all proud of the commitment and representation to & of the Alabama District. We see them everywhere. I think they are going to make a great Region A Couple and International Couple of the Year. Lets all support and encourage them when we see them.
Mrs. Lyn & I will be hosting a couple of the year seminar at the Alabama Rally on Friday so please come an see what this great program is all about. We will also have a Chapter of The Year seminar. All chapters should send a representative to this and become a part of this program which promotes chapter fun, unity and friendly competition with other chaters in the district.
We look forward to seeing you in Huntsville.

What's the ole saying about March and weather "In like a lion, out like a lamb"? I would like to know where that lamb is....
This month began with a visit to Chapter Y's fun day; benefitting Camp Smile a mile, I must admit Lady Luck shined on me even though the sun didn't, I love those cake walks. Sundays was even wetter and colder, the roaring of the lion caused a rescheduling of the parking lot practice, yet to be determined.
The second weekend of the month brought about a change of scenery with a visit to Chapter Z in Columbia, TN. Fun and smiles had by all, followed by a cold ride home, but well worth the visit.
Florida kicked off the convention season with smiles, hugs, people with green hair, vendors, games, and sunshine everywhere, Cowboys, Indians, a bright, vivid, full and "perigee moon" that happens once every 20 years. The District Couple for Florida was also selected, Congratulations Rick and Madalena Buck. And believe it or not some folks were surprised to find out lobster feast was going on. Oh yeah, if you see Bobby Bryant, ask him how fast his horse gallops.....
The month of March will end with the Alabama District Convention --Tribute to American Heroes. Who is your favorite American Hero. America has plenty to choose from starting with the pilgrims, to space exploration, ancestors to parents, kindergarten to college, church to the capitol, soldiers then and now. What an amazing country we live in, where we have so many options and choices.
I was checking our schedule for April -- what a busy month, Louisiana, Tennessee, South Carolina, hope to see you there. Rally season is here!!!!! Hoorah!! And then, look out Region here we come!
Making friends & building memories by the mile
