This past month has been a totally different type month for the Alexander's. We purchased an RV! Yep. A class C motor home. And I must say, it has changed our way of looking forward to upcoming weekends. So far we have used it three times and loved every minute of it, except packing it up to go home! That's not fun for a bunch of reasons, ya know? We spent 6 days in it during the Region Rally in Eufaula with many other campers from Chapter G, and more from our sister Chapters. Now that was fun. Some times we had as many as 15 people visiting our community campsites to eat and socialize. Doyce and Diane Colvin know how to put on a feed! The Colvins and the Ziglars, long time RVers, are showing us the ropes, thanks guys.
We have, however managed to use our rides. We've taken our Chapter to the haunted house restaurant in Camden, Al. Robert and Gail Brown took us there this year after the South Picnic. Not only is the eaten' real good but the place is a museum as well. The house was built in 1828 and was use on occasion to smuggle slaves to freedom and it is on the official Haunted House List for Alabama. If ever you are in the Camden area, you must try the place. Oh, by the way, it doesn't open 'till 5:30 pm so plan for that.
Then on Wednesday the week of the Region Rally, the Ziglars and us decided to head for Westville, Ga. to visit their pioneer village. Well guess what? The only day they are closed is Wednesday!!! So we turned it into a lunch ride in Lumpkin instead! Sue took us on some roads only a goat and REAL bikers would like. Some of the roads didn't even have a centerline!
As for the Region Rally, I'll leave all the numbers be talked about by our District Directors, but just let me say that it WAS a success. The weather was hot, but cooperative and the Rally site was nothing short of marvelous. If any of you out there are planning to attend next years Rally, get on the computer and reserve your rooms NOW. Once the announcement was made that the Rally was returning to Lake Point, a line formed at the reservation desk ten deep and twelve wide! This years reservations sold out in just a few months, so get with it.
DEFENSIVE, DEFENSIVE , DEFENSIVE . Please don't allow yourselves to become complacent in your motorcycle driving habits. As you must know by now, we lost two wonderful people and hurt another two in one accident during the Rally. Watch everything going on around you, EVERYTHING, and ALWAYS have an escape route in mind----ALWAYS. Corky and I send our most sincere regards and best wishes to all the South Carolina wingers as they greave their loss.

The month of TRCs
I don't know about you, but this has been a busy month. There were only four weekends and I was on the road conducting TRCs on three of them. Whew!
We ended last month with a TRC that was conducted in Meridianville as a practice for the 12 new GWRRA TRC Instructors. 8 of those instructors participate in Alabama chapters. They completed 4 pretty long days and nights of instruction and peer teaching to complete the course. That was in addition to 8 hours of classroom instruction that Frank Teasley presented earlier. Congratulations to Jan Breeding, Robert Brown, Chase Estes, Roy Fosnight, Tammy Hollingsworth, Harry Leach, Dewey Turner, and Jim Zabler, who are the new GWRRA TRC Instructors from Alabama!! Don Boren and Jesse Sammons from South Carolina, Jim Cobb from Tennessee, and Kyle Craig from Region N also completed the course. Congratulations everyone!!
On September 11th in Florence, SC, I put on my Master Instructor hat and certified John Petrush as a new GWRRA TRC Instructor for the region. John is a MSF Instructor and is now certified to instruct GWRRA TRCs. Congratulations John. Good course. Good luck!
On September 17, Don Boren, Jesse Sammons and I conducted a TRC at the Region A Convention. Several Alabama riders and co-riders weathered the heat and completed the course. Thanks, Don and Jesse for the exhausting TRC! I'm just glad Don and Jesse didn't run off because of all the International --level RE Program Directors, Assistant International RE Directors, Regional Educators, District Educators, and other Instructors watching. You can certainly stand the pressure! Thanks guys! Please keep up the good work!
Finally on 23/24 September Kyle Craig, Jim Cobb and I conducted a TRC at Wings Over the Smokies. Don Boren kicked cones for us. Had a good time on the slope. Bet Kyle, Jim and Don will remember that for a while. Good job guys!
Thanks to all the Instructors! You're doing great!
Speaking of Instructors -- we will be trying something new next weekend. Most of the GWRRA Rider Course Instructors in Alabama will be conducting 2 TRCs, 2 ARCs, 2 Medic First Aid classes, and all the GWRRA seminars during our Rider Education Weekend in Lincoln, Oxford, and Ft. McClellan, AL. Richard Chapman even got Frank Teasley to give us a big hand with the seminars. Big thanks to Richard Chapman for doing all the course and seminar arrangements. Richard spent hours and hours pulling this event together. Big thanks to Rickey Lackey, Tony, and others down in the Lincoln area who are responsible for getting us permission to use the Honda Plant and the riding areas. I'll have more to report next month. Thanks for all the volunteers!!!
One last thing and I'll quit. While at Wings Over the Smokies, I finally got a chance to watch a whole Team Challenge event. I also got to watch the Top Gun event. The NC Precision Drill Team conducted both of them. Let me tell you about the participants in the Team Challenge. First, the Team Challenge is a timed course that teams of 2 to 5 riders ride. The team with the best overall score wins the hardware (trophies). But the most interesting part of the event (to me as a by-stander) was the improvement the team members showed. At first, some of the riders who attempted to ride the Team Challenge couldn't stay in the lines of the various sections. But as they practiced the very tight turns, cone weaves, and 360 degree turns, they not only improved their times, but they stayed in the lines much better, and ran over fewer cones. The improvement was remarkable. Well, the event impressed me so much, I'm going to try to work a Team Challenge event into the 2011 Alabama District Convention schedule. Anyone interested in forming a couple of teams? Keep you posted.
You know -- the more I get involved, the more fun I have. Hope you're having as much fun as I am! Let's ride.

Hello Couple of The Years. The Alabama selection process for our new Alabama District Couple of The Year will be here before we know it. This is a very exciting time as you prepare to represent your chapter. The fun your friends have as they root for you is something that will bring your chapter together with a common goal. Your Chapter will stand on stage with you in spirit as you honor them with your participation in this selection process. Is it mandatory for you to participate? No it is not, so please do not think I am implying it is. What I want you to experience is the same thing all those who have participated in the past experienced. New friends, a common goal that you and your spouse can share, and the love and support of your chapter.
We are having our couple of the year seminar Oct, 23 2010 in Alabaster, Al. at our office. We would like for you to attend this to learn about resumes, what the judges are looking for and what you should have on your vest along with appropriate attire.
We will send out several updates and reminders as we approach the seminar and selection Jan. 8th 2011 at the Doster center in Prattville, Al during Snowball.
We do ask that all Couples who know they will be in the selection ;process e-mail us back so we can begin preparations with you. Those who are undecided please relay this to us also and make plans to be at our seminar in October to get more info to help on your decision.
If you definitely will not be in the selection please let us know that also.

We would both like to express our thanks to all the folks in Alabama for showing up and supporting us in the selection process for Region A Couple of the Year. We have been proud and honored to be first Chapter B Couple of the Year and then honored again as the Alabama District Couple of the Year. We have traveled to a lot of places and had a lot of fun while spending time with some old friends and meeting new friends to share great times with. While we didn't bring the Region A Couple of the Year title and position back to Alabama, we know that Ron and Becky Lees of South Carolina will do a great job representing the Region in their travels and at the International Couple Of The Year selection process at Wind Ding 2011 in Knoxville. We plan to be there supporting them and trying to help them win the next International title.
We also helped with the September 12th Ride for Kids event in Birmingham this year and had a very successful ride. We raised about $75,000 at the event and had 100 more participants this year than last year. Thanks to all the people who raised money to help this wonderful cause and to those who were able to attend the ride. We look forward to continued success in the years to come for the Birmingham Ride for Kids event.
On another note, the company Sue worked for lost the support contract with the DOD here at Redstone, but the good new is she was picked up by the new company that won the contract. She didn't get too much time off in between jobs, but unfortunately she has to start over building vacation. That means we will have to slow down travels for a month or two until she can get some time in the bank. You may see me out more without her, but she doesn't want me having too much fun and meeting too many new people without her. To that extent, we will not be able to make it to the Mississippi Convention/Rally next month. We were both looking forward to have a bunch of fun in Tupelo.
We do want to encourage all the Chapter Couples of the Year to participate in the District selection process. The memories you will build, new friends you will meet and the fun you will have will make for very pleasant memories that will last a life time. We will be helping Lynn and Lyn at their seminar next month and look forward to seeing the couples there.
Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul.
