MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all;
The first thing I need to do is apologize for an incorrect statement I made in last months newsletter. I mistakenly said that the January 9, 2010 Snowball Run would be held in Eufaula. Well we all know that is incorrect, right? It's really being conducted in Prattville, AL. So don't go to the wrong place, OK? Although there is quite a lot of District business done while at the Snowball, it is not just for the District Staff, CD, ACD, and Finance. All GWRRA members are invited to attend so you can see what your Chapter and District Staff members do for you. Maybe even answer a few of your questions about whether or not to consider accepting a Staff position in the future. Also, the new District Couple of the Year will be selected. Not only is it a fun and entertaining event, it becomes a social event as we all get together and root for our favorites and have so much fun in friendly Chapter rivalry.
Maybe some of you don't know it, but your Alabama Staff met for two days over the weekend of 4-5 Dec in Eufaula (now you know where I came up with that name?) with the District Staff members of four other states. The Annual Region A meeting, consisting of Staff members of MS, SC, FL, GA, and of course AL. During this meeting we discuss things which took place over the past year (2009) and future things (2010) that affect our State/Region. The good and the not so good. Once our District Directors (Roy and Anita Fosnight) received their guidance from the Region Directors, Bob and Nan Shrader, a District Staff meeting was conducted on 12 Dec near Bessemer, AL insuring all of your Chapters are well informed and working together towards our States mission and goals. I only tell ya this stuff to let ya know that your State's staff is doing all that can be done to help you CD's make your Chapters all they can be, K?
We didn't spend all of December stuck in staff meetings. We were able to get out and see many Christmas lights and attend a few Chapter Christmas gatherings as well. Cold or wet we are out on the road having fun as usual. So much so, that I was honored by Chapter G during their Christmas Party in receiving their Annual High Mileage Award for 2009 with 20,499 miles driven on my wing.
Don't forget to enter on your new 2010 calendars on April 1-3 the Alabama District Rally held in Huntsville Al. and on Sep 16 --18 the Region A Rally.

Wow! Can you believe how fast this past year has went? Barbie and I would like wish all of you a Happy New Year! We would also like to thank everyone who helped out the Motorist Awareness Division by spreading the word about motorcycles. As of this writing, with the fourth quarter info not included, there has been 26 motorcyclist presentations, 59 non-motorcyclists presentations and 12 public appearances and/or mall shows conducted in 2009. Once again thank you if you had anything to do with any one of those things.
Looking ahead to the New Year, I hope we can continue to improve with even better numbers. That is one of my goals for the New Year. My other goals for this year are as follows.
I think with a little help we can accomplish these goals. Thank you for your time and once again Happy New Year!!
See you at the Snowball.

Greetings fellow riders, we hope that each of you had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. With 2010 now upon us we hope you will set your sights on making this year better than last. Even with the successes of 2009 we have great expectations for 2010. We had many participants in the Leadership Training Program in 2009 and we look forward to having even more this year. We will begin our 2010 program with Horizons on February 6th and 7th and follow it up with Chapter Leadership Skills on February 20th. Details for both classes are posted on the district website. If you have questions about either of these please contact us asap and we will try our best to help. We strongly encourage all new chapter directors and assistant chapter directors to enroll in this program in Feb. We think that the information you will receive there will help you in your transition into chapter leadership. Even though these classes are entitled "Leadership Training" we strongly encourage each GWRRA member to attend. These programs are designed to help any member to learn more about GWRRA and how it functions. And as most of you already know, the more you know the more you will participate, and the more you participate the more you will enjoy chapter life. We look forward to seeing each of you there.
Have a great January

"Happy New Year Everyone"
2010 is now here and we have a Chapter Recruiting Contest. It is called "New Member Recruitment". The Chapter that has recruited the most NEW MEMBERS by November 1, 2010 will receive:
The theme for 2010 is BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS. Melissa Eason, Executive Director, said in her article in Wing World that was what GWRRA was founded on over 30 years ago, so let's expand our social groups and open our arms to new people. She also challenged each of us to bring in a new friend and to take time to meet other Goldwingers we do not know. She closed her article by saying we can never have to many friends. How true that is!

We have seen another year fly by and a new one begin.
Alabama has a lot to be proud of in 09 and so much to look forward to in 2010.
One of the best things was the selection of Steven & Tammy Holingsworth as Al. District Couple at the last Snowball and then their selection as Region A Couple of The Year at the Region A Rally in Dothan, Al.
This year at Snowball we once again have a fine group of Couples to select from.
Billy and Maravenne Stum of Chapter U in Dothan
Ricky & Elaine Lackey from Chapter D in Anniston
Richard & Sue Chapman from Chapter B in Huntsville
Each of these Couples would represent Alabama in a fine manner. I am certainly glad I am not a Judge. It will be a most difficult decision.
Lynn & I attended the Region A business meeting and enjoyed it tremendously. We learn so much when attending these sessions. One of the main topics was contacting all new members in a timely manner. Inviting them to a meeting and ensuring they enjoy themselves while there. We need to grow this organization and if we could have GWRRA home office alert us within a day or so of someone joining that invitation would really be special to the new ones. I hope we can work on the logistics of getting that done.
Lynn & I hope you had a very Merry Christmas And enjoy a Grand New Year.
