The 2008 Alabama District Rally is history and is now just a memory, good memories. We gave away a Goldwing and the winner was from the Great State of Alabama, Jake Lawyer of AL-B is now the proud owner of this motorcycle. It is rumored that he will soon be turning this Goldwing into a trike. Congratulations and enjoy your new bike.
This Rally would not have been a success without the hard work and dedication of many people. Chapter A worked hard before and during the rally. All the Chapters and members in Alabama that were given assignments, came through and made sure that their obligations were filled. The Region A Staff pulled pork and served at the cookout. Just a big THANK YOU to everyone that came and had a good time with us.
Man, I am sure glad that I was not ask to judge the Couple of the Year selection.. Alabama had 4 very deserving couples compete and the judges had a tough decision to make. Terry and Barbie Cleveland from AL-N out of Gadsden were chosen and are the new Alabama District Couple of the Year. They are already on the road visiting chapters in Alabama and will be competing at the Region A Rally in Dothan in September. Congratulation Terry and Barbie.
The South Picnic is May 31 at Roland Cooper State Park. Check the District web site for time and directions. Hope to see everyone there.
Try and get out and visit other chapters when you can. We will be out and visiting, so we hope to see you down the road.

The more you know the better it gets
Greetings fellow riders, this month we would like to take time to thank everyone who attended the leadership classes in February. We have gotten feedback from quite a few of you about your experiences while there. There have been some very good suggestions about how we can improve our next round of seminars scheduled for August. Speaking of August, we will be conducting a Horizons class the first weekend of August (the 2nd and 3rd) and on the 16th we will be conducting the final session in the Horizons classes, Advanced Leadership Training. We are looking forward to seeing all of you who have completed the first three classes at this one. Registration for both of these seminars can be found on the Alabama District Website. Click on the Leadership Training Logo and follow the directions. The classes will be held in the same location as the others, the training room at UAB Medical West Hospital in Bessemer,Al. All other information is on the district website.
On another subject, we would like to thank all of you who attended the Alabama District Rally in Mobile. Everyone we talked to told us they had a great time and enjoyed all of the events that were scheduled (except the swamp boat rides, we still can't control Mother Nature). The storms that moved through the area on Friday night into Saturday morning put a bit of a damper on Saturday but, as it always does, the sun eventually came out. We had quite a turnout for closing ceremonies and wish to congratulate the winner of the 2008 Goldwing, Jake Lawyer from Chapter B in Huntsville. We would also like to thank everyone who participated in our NASCAR jacket giveaway. We had three lucky winners who got to choose their favorite drivers jacket. Thanks again to all of you who participated.
Finally this month we would like to recognize two new Leadership Training instructors who received their teaching certificates at the rally. Anita Fosnight and Linda Teasley were both certified as Alabama's newest instructors. Congratulations to both of them for a job well done.
We hope to see all of you out on the road,
|Frank & Linda Teasley|

WOW---That's the word that comes to our minds when we think about the Alabama District Rally. It was GREAT!
Recruiting was SUPER at the rally. We had 34 new members sign up and 6 renewed their memberships.
Remember, RETENTION begins the first month that a new member joins. Welcome all your members.
We want to say THANKS to Roy & Anita Fosnight, Bill & Dian Gulley, Jim & Karen Lee and Robert & Gail Brown for all their hard work at organizing everything. We also want to THANK everyone in the state and the people from other states that jumped in and worked. We send a special THANKS to Al Manning for storing our supplies all weekend.
Riding season is now here--Be Safe--Enjoy--Recruit!

Lyn and I want to thank everyone for the support given to us over the last year as your Alabama Couple of the Year. It has truly been our honor and an experience we shall cherish.
It is now time for a new couple to take this honor and to receive our support. We want to congratulate Terry & Barbie Cleveland from Chapter N, Gadsden Al. They are a super Couple and will do a fantastic job in representing Alabama and the GWRRA. They are already out visiting other chapters and it was nice to see them again at Chapter G Samson Al. Fun day.
We also want to remind all chapters to have your new couples selected by June 30th so they will have time to prepare for the selection process at Snowball. Lyn and I are already contacting prospective judges for the selection.
I hope everyone had a good time at the rally. A lot of people worked hard to make sure it was successful. For Roy & Anita's first rally I want to congratulate them for an excellent rally. Way To Go !!!!!! And as usual a big thank you to Jim Lee for coordinating and Al Manning for doing a great job with the vendors. But of course a rally would never succeed without the fine Members of the GWRRA coming to have fun and buy a little chrome.
There is a rumor going around that we had a member or two participating in a little parade until they found out it was -- lets say a little too much fun -- Oh well I hope you guys don't get too much grief over it.
We hope to see everyone soon and ride safe.

We are Terry & Barbie Cleveland, your 2008 Alabama District Couple of the Year. We would like to tell you a little bit about ourselves. We have been married for 9 years; between us we have 4 children and 1 Grandchild. We ride a black 1998 GL 1500 Goldwing.
Terry has been a member since 1997. Barbie became a member in 1999 when we married. We participate with our home chapter "N" Gadsden AL. We have served as Assistant Chapter Directors, Chapter Directors, and now we are Assistants again. It is a great honor and privilege to be selected as Alabama District Couple of the Year.
We are really looking forward to this coming year. Our goal is to visit every chapter at some point this next year and also to represent the Alabama District to the best of our ability. We hope to meet a lot of new friends on our travels this year. So if you see us out and about come up and say hello.
Thanks for everyones support; we will see you on the road and ride safe!

An ice cream headache is triggered by a sudden change in temperature that occurs in your mouth when you eat something cold.
On a hot day when you eat a DQ treat, the cold treat that touches the top of your mouth initiates a nerve reaction that swells blood vessels in your head. The nerve center on the roof of your mouth overreacts to the cold temperature of the snow cone and tries to heat your brain. This swelling of blood vessels is what causes an ice cream headache, or what is more commonly known as "brain freeze" or "frozen brain syndrome."
Luckily the intense stabbing pain in your head usually lasts only for about 30-60 seconds.
I scream, you scream, we all scream ice cream HEADACHE! - 30% of the human population suffers from these excruciating headaches. The best way to avoid getting an ice cream headache is keep the chilled foods or beverages you eat on the side of your mouth, away from the roof of your mouth.
