Hello Fellow Wingers;
This month has been rather slow for Corky and I, as far as GWRRA functions go. There were a few things to talk about though. One of the more important, to me, is that Paul and Gladys Luker have stepped up and taken over Chapter L in Thomasville, Al last month. What a great thing they are doing for their Chapter. Paul, as many of you may already know has been the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer for the last two (2) District Picnics at Roland Cooper St Park. It was a great day for most of us attending. There were a few stories of rain and such, but not many. We had members show up from all over the State from Huntsville to Mobile.
During the picnic festivities, I was HONORED in being selected by the District Director to present the "SENIOR CHAPTER DIRECTORS" Certificate and patch to Doyce and Diane Colvin, Al-G Chapter Directors, for their untiring support of Chapter G and the GWRRA, enlarging chapter membership, and coordinating their Chapter activities. Because of them, Chapter G has grown from a small sized chapter to a medium sized chapter. Congratulations, you very much deserve this most prestigious award.
Our District MAD Day "Drive Aware Alabama" was a hit. Terry and Barbie went above and beyond the call of duty insuring that we, in the field, were provided everything needed, and more. Their efforts insured a smooth and coordinated completion of this astronomic task. Thank you guys for all you did. AND while I'm at it, THANKS to all the volunteers who sat out there, in the heat, talking to all those people on our behalf. It was an extremely positive event for GWRRA and our District.
This is my last opportunity to remind you guys about getting enrolled in the OCP class being conducted in DeFunik Spring, Fl on 12-13 June. I myself was not enrolled until just this month, not understanding that we must enroll through the Florida Trainers, not ours! But thanks to Frank Teasley, I'm good to go now! Last head count I heard for this class was near a total of 40 Al and Fl people! It is pleasing to see the support from all of you. THANKS, again!!
Memorial Day Weekend is almost upon us. Have a great 3 day weekend and ride, ride, ride, but be very cautious. The drunks, crazies and police are out in force!
Alright, I'm done! Hope to see you some place down the road very soon.

M.A.D. in L.A. I rode down with Sue and Richard Chapman to visit with Chapters A and W for MAD Day. The chapters had nice set-ups at the Welcome Centers on each side of the state on I-10. Lots of contacts with the motoring public were made in the short time I was at each Welcome Center. Both Chapters were feeding the public and us. That was a nice touch and I appreciated the hot dogs and hamburgers. The Chapter members showed lots of enthusiasm for the event. Kudos to the Chapters and Barbie and Terry Cleveland. Let's do it again!
Free is the word. Starting immediately, all AL District Rider Education courses are free to AL District GWRRA members. Advanced Rider Courses (ARC), Trike Rider Courses (TRC), and Medic First Aid (MFA) courses that are conducted by the District will be free of charge to members who live in AL. We'll still need members to pay a $20 registration fee, but if they attend and complete the course, we will refund their registration fee. If they don't show up for the course, we'll keep their registration fee. The intent of course is to give an incentive to attend the courses. We will try this experiment for a year to see if we can continue it.
Trailer Raffle. The way we will pay for the free Rider Education courses is by conducting a raffle for a color-matched Bushtec trailer. We will sell tickets for a trailer that will be given away at the 2011 AL District Convention. The winner will not have to be present to win. We plan to offer incentives to the Chapter, and individual member who sells the most tickets. More to come on this project.
Rider Course Instructor Training (RCIT). We are actively seeking applications for a Trike Rider Course Instructor Course that will be conducted in August 2010. If you're interested, please send me an application form and $100 no later than June 15, 2010.
Rider Education Program Contacts: Please contact the following members for all issues concerned with their programs:
Gail Brown for Medic First Aid (MFA)
Richard Chapman for Parking Lot Practice (PLP)

Hello everyone,
We have all of the information from our Drive Aware Alabama campaign held at the welcome centers on May 15th. There were 15 Alabama chapters with approximately 200 members manning the 8 welcome centers. We made contact with 2,688 people. These people were handed pamphlets, bumper stickers, or were just asked to watch out for motorcycles. This number of people far exceeded our expectations for this day. Because of the positive response we have recieved, not only from our GWRRA friends, but also from the tourism dept, ALDOT, and the people we talked with at the centers, we will do this again next year. So, if you have any suggestions or comments on what we could do to improve, please let us know. Now, a big Thank You to everyone who gave up part, or all, that Saturday to help make the roads safer for motorcycles. Y'all did a great job!! Lets keep this going and continue to make contact with the non riding public, and make them aware that they share the road with us. If you have any questions on how to do this feel free to contact us anytime.

Good Weather,
Wonderful Fellowship,
made a
GREAT PICNIC!
Thank you, Roy and Anita for providing us all with a nice picnic. The food was sooooooo good. We had a good time.
Paul & Gladys Luker, have stepped up and taken the position of Chapter Directors, of Chapter "L". We want to say Thanks to them for doing that and we want them to know we are all here to help them in any way they may need help. They are the ones that cooked at the picnic. They are good cooks and hard workers. We are looking forward to seeing a lot more of them.
We also have a new chapter in Guntersville. It is Chapter "V". Rich & Nancy Follett are the Chapter Directors. They had their Kick-Off May 16th at Guntersville Lake. They had a good turn out with lots of friends and again lots of good food. Their day was a success and we look forward to seeing a lot more of them also.
On Saturday, May 15th was Motorcycle Awareness Day at all the Welcome Centers in Alabama. Lots of literature and applications were handed out. We were in Kentucky for our grandson's wedding, but noticed on the interstate in Tennessee and Kentucky they were advertising
"Be Aware, Motorcycles are Everywhere".
We were proud to see that.
Riding season is now here--Ride Safe--Enjoy--Recruit!
Happy Recruiting,

We had an excellent time at the Southern Alabama Picnic. Lyn & I were pleased with all the Chapter Couple of The Years that attended. We had all of them introduce themselves to the 100 or so people there. I think they enjoyed doing so even though they all lied and said they didn't want to. They truly are a wonderful group and I would be proud to have any of those couples represent our state as the next Districi Couple of The Year. (OK North Alabama lets see your chapters Couples show up big at the North Picnic at Joe Wheeler State park).
Richard and Sue Chapman our AL District Couple were at the So. Picnic and said some very encouraging words to these new Couples and I am sure it was very appreciated. Please make plans to attend the Region A Rally/Convention in Eufalla to root this fine Couple to be our next Region A Couple. Speaking of the Region A couple of The Year our very own Steven and Tammy Hollingsworth will be heading for the International selection process at Wing Ding in Des Moine Iowa on Tuesday 28 June. Lets have a huge contengent from our State there to root for and welcome them as Alabamas 1st International Couple of The Year. We love you Steven & Tammy compete with confidence.
On Saturday May 15th Every Chapter in the State manned a welcome center for Motorcycle awareness month. It was a wonderful experience for Lyn & I as thousands of people were made more aware of our presence among them. Please read Terry and Barbies news letter for the details. I cannot end this without expressing how greatfull we are to Terry and Barbie Cleveland for organizing such a successful MAD campaign. You guys did such a Super Man job that we may need to replace the statue in Metropolis Illinois with a big one of yours. Thanks again.
See you at the Georgia Convention and Wing Ding.
Until next time ride safe.

This has been a really fun month.
Well this was a first for me I rode in to Charleston on a motorcycle and left in an airplane. I was due in Eau Claire Wisconsin that Sunday. The South Carolina Convention was a huge success, Charles and Kathy did a marvelous job and the location was perfect. Shortly after the convention Kathy was diagnosed with cancer. Please keep them in your prayers. I heard that the South Picnic was a huge success.
Richard attended the South Picnic and said it was great with higher attendance than last year. Sorry I couldn't be there but I was thinking of everyone
Special thanks go to Terry and Barbie for the outstanding job they did on the Motor Awareness day. Richard, Jim Robinson and I headed down to Mobile to support the southern welcome centers. We spent the morning with Chapter W at the Florida line and headed over to spend the afternoon with Chapter A. It was a huge success and we enjoyed getting to spend time with the Chapters that are so far away.
On the way home from Mobile we dropped off to Chapter V's kickoff. Congratulations Chapter V and have some fun!
This weekend is very special to so many people. On Memorial Day we ride to fallen Chapter B's member graves and leave a flag. After that we head to our place and have a cookout and just have a great day. So please remember the men and women who have and/or are serving this great nation.
Don't forget the Georgia's Convention and the South OCP class coming up in June. Richard and I are hoping to visit 3 more chapters this month so be on the lookout, we may be coming to a meeting near you.

With the approach of Memorial Day and the 4th of July, many have asked "what is the proper way to display the American Flag" on our bikes.
When the US Flag is flown alone, it should be at the "center" on the rear of the motorcycle, or its "marching right". The "marching right" is on the right side of the motorcycle to the rider‟s perspective when facing forward.
If the US Flag is on your bike with another, it should be to its "marching right". This means displaying the flag with no other to its right.
If displayed with multiple flags, the US Flag should be centered and highest. The other flags should be arranged in alphabetical order and in decreasing importance. i.e. Nations first, states (in order of admittance) and territories second, military third (in order of establishment) and then any other flag.
